LO1: Be able to research the development of digital media technologies to support the planning of a new product

My idea for a new technology/interactive product is a virtual reality headset that heightens CGI in film and TV. This can help the actors see what is actually going to be CGI in the film such as monsters and other things that CGI is used for.

VR, AR and Web 2.0 has had an influence on my creation. This is because without the influence of Web 2.0  Virtual reality is unlikely to be a thing. This is because Web 2.0 is the second stage of development of the internet.  These products allowed virtual reality to be created easier. Also, VR has given companies the chance to create things like virtual tours and meetings in things such as VR chat. It has also heightened the change for how fits are made with very heavy duty VR headset that used for motion capture. Virtual reality has also been used in cinemas to create immersive experiences for the viewers. I think that using this during the filming process will heighten the reactions actors due to the fact that will be more immersed in the film. VR has been used in many films and is slowly starting to become more mainstream as seen in Save Every Breathe: The Dunkirk VR Experience where the film is filmed in VR to immerse the viewer.

Developments in VR have created many pathways and have made it as popular as it is today. VR is filmed as a 360 degree video of a scene. Synergy with VR has been used to produce and promote it such as with Sony and Facebook. It is the most effective marketing tool since it allows conglomerate companies to use their subsidiaries to promote and market a product. Working alongside a VR company and a film company to help this produce this product, this would be cross promotion since I could use the VR company that specialises in gaming to help create CGI in films. Cross promotion is when a product that is classified as two products is promoted in two different media sectors to maximise the success of a brand. I can use online planning tools such as Miro, which is like an online whiteboard tool which can help with brainstorming and mind mapping ideas for this product. Another online planning tool I can use is Toggl which is used to create project timelines which gives me a good idea on what needs doing and how long it will take to create. I would have to use things like Thena which is a 360 degree camera to create the scene and then also have access to Unity or Blender to help create the CGI models. My target audience for this product is filmmakers so this could range from either 21-60 year old of all genders and of all sexualities. Looking on the psychographic side of things I think mainstreamer is good for this since VR is already becoming a mainstream product and it will be used in mainstream films such as DC films, Marvel films and other actions. Advertising for this product will be rather difficult although I think I could advertise this on Instagram  with a short promotion film showing what the product looks like and how it functions, I think this will heighten the success of my product since a lot of directors and producers use film use instagram quite a lot and would hopefully see my product as an add on instagram.

Other virtual reality conglomerates such as Samsung and HTC will be able to help me advertise my product due to Samsung advertising through TV, pop and internet advertisements so this helps fill in these sectors when advertising my product, they could also have a hand in sponsoring my product since they make VR products themselves or they could also help the creation. Another company I think would be good in helping with my product is Microsoft, this is mainly because they are a cross media company. They are involved in gaming, websites, apps and also creating new technology like laptops and tablets, using Microsoft to advertise my product would also be a good idea because then I could have my product advertise on their website, on the xbox dashboard and also in TV ads. My products will also give young and upcoming filmmakers the chance to create really immersive CGI in films in places like colleges and universities, however with this new technology based CGI it may be harder to use and very vulnerable to be broken.
